Beautiful and large alloy resting bell 銅鉢 (dôbachi) with a lovely long lasting warm sound, resting on a round red-white silk pillow, raised by a red lacquer wooden stand with gilded rims and five curved feet connected by a circular base. Base filled with carved inscriptions about the origin and name of the commissioner. But also dating the piece ‘January, Meiji 36’ 明治三十六年一月, Anno 1903.
Completed with red lacquer and leather bachi 撥 (striker), placed on wooden stand.
The bell has a nice dark brown patina and a continual hammered motif around the body. Striking the bell produces a soothing and lingering sound. Small 4-character name seal under the rim.

It is in a very good original condition with some minor superficial traces of age and use. The stand and bachi with some wear. For a clear condition reference, please look at the photos.
A standing or resting bell is an inverted bell, supported from below with the rim uppermost. Such bells are normally bowl-shaped often played by striking, but some—known as singing bowls—may also be played by rotating a mallet around the outside rim. Struck bowls are used in some Buddhist religious practices for meditation and chanting. Struck and singing bowls are widely used for music making, meditation and relaxation, and personal spirituality. They have become popular with music therapists, sound healers and yoga practitioners (Wikipedia).
