哈拉帕文明 Terracotta 幾何裝飾碗 (沒有保留價)

A fine Indus Valley terracotta vessel featuring geometric decoration in dark pigment. The body is globular in shape, resting upon a flat, circular foot and tapering gently to a thin rim. Geometric motifs, although most of which are no long visible due to surface flaking, are painted throughout the body. The decoration consists of two horizontal registers of parallel vertical lines enclosed by encircling bands. Some chips and cracks feature to the rim and earthy encrustations throughout. The Indus Valley Civilisation was one of three early and widespread cradles of civilisation along with Ancient Egypt and the Near East. At its peak, the Indus Valley Civilisation, which included such sites as Harappa and Mohenjo-daro, may have had a population of over five million, who developed new techniques in pottery, seal carving, and metallurgy. They were accustomed to creating small terracotta figurines, many of which took the form of zoomorphic characters, with the cow being one of the most popular. Measurements: (circa) Η 9.6cm x W 12.5cm Provenance: From the David Gold (deceased) collection, 1970’s.
