A very uncommon lacquered 3-tiered katana storage box, rectangular in shape, designed for housing up to 15 swords. The cover is adorned with a crest 紋 (mon) depicting four tilted open squares within a circle, known as 目結 (meyui). This motif is rendered in golden hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief lacquer design) on a glossy black lacquer substrate 蝋色漆 (rôiro’urushi), creating an elegant and striking appearance.
Each tier of the box can accommodate five swords, providing ample storage space while maintaining a compact form. The underside of the box features an inscription in red lacquer.
Period: Japan – Shôwa period (1912-1989).
Dimensions:
Height 37.4 cm (Bottom tier 11.7 cm, Two tiers above 10.6 cm each, Cover 4.5 cm), Length 95.4 cm, Inner length 92.7 cm, Depth 29.8 cm.
In a very good condition with minimal traces of wear conform age and normal use, few small restorations. Please refer the photos for a clear condition reference.
When shipped, a certificate of authenticity will be included.
