King Constantine I of Greece (1868-1923) Founder of the Order of George I.
King Constantine I founded this high decoration to commemorate his father, King George I. His reign ended in 1913 when the monarch was assassinated shortly after his victory in the first Balkan War (1912-1913). The Order of George I is awarded to Greeks and foreigners who have achieved extraordinary things. This order recognizes the fight for the fatherland, services in the field of public administration, literature and art, and science. There are six classes of this order.
King Constantine I tried to maintain his country's neutrality during the First World War. In 1917, the monarch was forced to abdicate. After a referendum in 1920, he became king again, but in 1922, after his country's defeat against Turkey, he abdicated again.
The order's symbol is a white enameled Latin cross in gold. There is a laurel wreath between the arms of the cross. The medallion bears the crowned mirror monogram of King George L. on a red background with the Greek inscription on a white background, "Love of the people is my strength", the king's motto. You will receive this medal as a collector's copy true to the original.
