The band consisted of Keith Emerson on keyboards, Greg Lake on bass and vocals and Carl Palmer on drums. The album is considered one of the most important works of progressive rock and is known for its complex music, diverse influences and the virtuoso skills of the band members. The title track "Tarkus" spans the entire first side of the album and is an epic, instrumental song divided into different sections.
