Rare Ancient Roman Bronze Eagle Sitting on Bull's Head
Circa 1st-3rd century AD
This fantastic bronze statuette represents an eagle in a majestic pose, perched atop a bull’s head that crowns a short column. The eagle's body is rendered in meticulous detail, with finely delineated plumage that captures the bird's power and grace. Its wings are held back in a poised, yet dynamic stance, while the head is raised, exuding an aura of strength and authority.
In Roman culture, the eagle was a symbol of Jupiter, the king of the gods, and was often associated with imperial power. The bull's head represents strength and sacrifice.
