Chinese Export Porcelain Platter or Dish, Fitzhugh Blue & White c1810
Oval dish in Chinese export porcelain, finely decorated in underglaze cobalt blue (qinghua) with the “Fitzhugh” decoration.
The Fitzhugh name for this pattern derives from an association with a blue and white service commissioned around 1780 by Englishman Thomas Fitzhugh. Thomas Fitzhugh served from 1786 to 1800 in Guangzhou (Canton) as a director of the British East India Company.
Beautiful and highly sought-after “orange skin”.
