Indian Tulwar Sword
Circa 19th century AD
This tulwar sword features a long, single-edged blade that is un-fullered, slightly curved, and tapers to a point. Its steel hilt is characterized by a large disc pommel with a bud finial at the top, and it includes a cross guard with convex quillons, along with long langets on each side of the blade.
The tulwar sword is a versatile weapon widely used in the Indian subcontinent. Characterized by a curved blade with a single edge, these swords were primarily designed for slashing and cutting motions in close combat. The blade typically featured a slightly curved or straight spine, leading to a sharp point at the tip. Tulwars often had a distinctive hilt with a knuckle guard and a disc-shaped pommel, providing a secure grip for the wielder.
