Extremely Beautiful Icon of Saint Pantaleimon, Hand Painted on Wood. Panteleimon was a great martyr from Nicomedia who suffered for the Christian faith during the reign of the Roman emperor Maximian. Saint Panteleimon is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers. His name translated from Greek means "all-merciful". According to his biography, St. Panteleimon was born as a pagan with the name Pantoleon. He studied medicine under the then famous doctor Efrosinus and became a court physician. Subsequently, he accepted Christianity and his new name Panteleimon. He refused to worship the heathen gods, for which he was subjected to sufferings, which he endured without pain with the help of Christ, and was cut down with a sword by order of Maximian.
