A big Chinese quadrilobed porcelain famille rose and sepia enamelled 'Scholars' bowl with calligraphy. China, Republic (1912-1949, 中華民國) period, 2nd quarter 20th century, manufactured by Sincere Department Store. Very rare model in excellent condition!
Finely potted in quadrilobed shape with a foliate rim, supported on the expanding foot. Masterfully painted to the interior with two Scholars sitting at the large rock, under the flowering, amidst flowers in different colors. Four character inscription above figures. Exterior with a large famille rose palette spray of flowers on one side and Chinese black calligraphy (probably a poem) on other side. Top rim-gilt. Golden line above the foot. Inscribed to the base with overglaze six-character pale blue mark: Jiangxi Sincere Chu Pin (Jiangxi Sincere Production). Remains of the paper stickers with Chinese characters on the wall.
The bowl was manufactured for 'Sincere', one of four famous Super Department Stores in HongKong (check last picture for details).
Daylight and pictures included.
Dimensions: width – 27,2 cm; depth – 20,6 cm, height – 6,5 cm. Weight – 797 g.
Provenance: private collection, The Netherlands.
Conditions report: bowl in excellent condition, no damages visible. Minor wear to the painted decoration. Gilding on top-rim partially worn. Minor firing faults. Strong white light tested. Check pictures for details.
