Stunning late Victorian large silver-plated figural inkstand in the form of an imperial eagle. The bird has its wings spread and sits atop an embossed rocky outcrop covered with ornate foliage. The sculpture is resting on a tall circular ogee pedestal base.
Superbly well modelled figure with finely textured plumage and great attention to details such as the claws and rocky terrain.
The underneath of the base is marked "Sheffield" - the exact same model can also be found marked for James Deakin & Sons.
Maker: Possibly by James Deakin & Sons
Origin: Sheffield, England
Date: c. 1890's
1176 g
18.5 cm at highest point
18 cm across wing tips
13 cm base diameter
Excellent antique condition. The rim of the base is a bit uneven and has few small nicks; scratches to the underside of the base; one foot appears to be reinforced with soldering; small pierced spot on the tail.
