Gogottes are concretions that form in soft sandy sediments during their solidification. Very rarely, they can form extraordinary shapes, prized by collectors and designers for their unique curves.
The Fontainebleau sandstones, lying underneath the eponymous forest south of Paris, are the historical deposit for the purest and highest quality gogottes in the world!
There, an unlikely combination of geological events (water table variations in extremely pure and white sands during successive glacial-interglacial periods over tens of thousands of years) created incredible natural shapes.
This is the 'elephant': an unique gogotte specimen reminiscent of an elephant head!
The grain is very fine, the matter is beautiful and the shape absolutely unique.
An outstanding decorative mineral object!
