A refined antique Suzuribako硯箱 (writing box) in excellent quality and craftmanship. The surface of this Suzuribako are used nashiji lacquer technique shows a thick gold dust with luxury and beauty. In addition, gold taka maki-e 高蒔絵 (high-relief lacquer design) is also widely used on the lid and interior to creates very ornate patterns with great precision and detail, capturing the beauty of gourd and eggplant in every nuance. The gold lacquer was applied with great skill, creating an effect of depth and three-dimensionality to the floral motif.
The box with three fitted trays, one is housing an inkstone 硯 (suzuri) and the other two are used to put ink, brush, knife, etc..
Techniques: Nashiji, taka Maki-e and mother of pearl inlay
Dimensions: 24.5 x 21.5 x 4.5 cm
Good condition, there are stains, scratches, wear off and a crack on a corner(repaired), please also take a look at the listed photos for a reference.
