This is a full, free standing polished end chambered ammonite. Ammonites were marine mollusks that lived in the world's oceans for millions of years, from the Devonian period around 400 million years ago until the end of the Cretaceous period around 66 million years ago. They were cephalopods, related to modern-day squids and octopuses, and they inhabited a variety of marine environments, from shallow coastal waters to deep ocean basins.
