A fine collection of 15 thin ropes, used as a waistband around the hips by young Ashanti-women. In bundles they make a nice rattling sound. All ropes are individually assembled, using colours that are available at that moment. Originally these disc-beads were made in the Czech republic in the 1960-70's. Made of "bakelite"; a phenolic resin as an early plastic. The threads of these ropes can be fragile, due to their age. The sizes of the discs of these ropes vary between 3 and 5 mm wide. All ropes were collected in the city of Kumasi in the 1990's.
