Mannerist Renaissance architect, painter, writer and Italian designer, who was part of the team that built the Palace of Fontainebleau, invited to France by King Francis I. Serlio classified ancient classical buildings, canonized the five classical orders of architecture, was a pioneer in the use of illustrations in books, and greatly influenced architects throughout Europe with his treatises, “I sette libri dell'architettura” (Seven Books of Architecture) or “Tutte l'opere d'architettura et prospetiva” (All works on architecture and perspective), fundamental works of architecture during the Modern Age. Their collective works became the bible of later Renaissance architects.
