J W Story & W Elliott (1812) - Georgian lobed fruit bowl with flying dog handles, embossed cornucopia, 602g - 水果盤 - .925 銀

Impressive George III large sterling silver fruit dish. Lobed round body divided into 6 panelled sections and resting on a spreading circular foot. The bowl has two figural handles modelled as winged dogs / gargoyles. The centre of the bowl has a wonderfully ornate repoussage of pear, apples, grapes and other fruit; the panels are engraved and embossed with scrolls, foliage and various blooming flowers. There are 2 vacant shield cartouches, so this bowl can be engraved and personalised as a present. The maker's mark is very rubbed, but under a magnifying glass a partial "IWW" is visible, for J W Story and W Elliott. The shape and design of this bowl is reminiscent of Dutch brandy bowls that were popular in the 17th century.
