A diverse collection of red-brick coloured disc-beads. These beads were originally produced in Bohemia ( Czech republic) in the 1950-70's. and were exported allmost exclusively to the Goldcoast ( later Ghana). Here they were very popular with the Ashanti. Young women individually assembled these ropes, using available colours. The strings were worn around the waist in bundles , which made a nice rattling sound when dancing. There are 9 thick ropes varying in size from 11-14-17 mm. Lenght; 46 cm. The rope of 17 mm wide is also called "brick", because of its large size. This size is rare to find.
Added are 5 ropes of red thin disc beads, more homogenous in colour. Size; 5 mm. lenght 46 cm.
All ropes were collected in the city of Kumasi in the late 1990's.
