This set is a testament to the timeless Heian Zohiko legacy that began in 1661 with the establishment of the ivory shop that eventually became known for exquisite lacquerware. Notably, the workshop was honored to refurbish the thrones at the new Imperial Palace and partake in crafting sacred treasures for the 62nd Shikinen Sengu at Ise Jingu Shrine. The black lacquered surface is elegantly adorned with a delicate daffodil maki-e, a Japanese lacquer sprinkled with gold or silver powder as a decoration using a maki-e technique. The floral elements are highlighted with vibrant blue mother-of-pearl inlay, showcasing the intricate artistry of traditional Kyoto lacquerware. The daffodil motif carries a profound symbolism, often associated with rebirth and new beginnings. Included within the set are an ink stone, two brushes, and a water dropper, completing the necessary tools for traditional Japanese calligraphy.
