Cycles Mercier was the main team sponsor from 1935 to 1969. The team cycled in purple jerseys from 1946. The shirt got its distinctive shape in 1950 with a yellow band in the neck and cuff lining. This would continue until 1969, the team had a second sponsor called Hutchinson from 1935 to 1955, the team was then known as the "Mercier-Hutchinson" team. The team was called "Mercier-BP-Hutchinson" from 1956 to 1969. Antonin Magne, two-time winner of the Tour of France and world champion on the road in 1936, finished his career with the team in 1941 and rejoined the team in 1953 as a sports director. He remained until 1970 when the team continued under the name "Bassor-Mercier".
