大黑自在(锅钩) - 榉木 - 日本 - Meiji period (1868-1912)
A solid keyaki wooden Daikoku jizai 自在 (pot hook), so named for its resemblance to the hat of Daikokuten 大黒天, the Japanese deity of fortune and wealth, and one of the Seven Gods of Fortune 七福神 (Shichifukujin).
These hooks were traditionally suspended from a sturdy beam above the sunken hearth, secured with a rope. An adjustable hook attached to it allowed the kettle to hang at the desired height over the hearth for cooking or heating purposes.
Crafted from precious ‘Keyaki’ wood (Zelkova - Japanese oak), the hook is finished in a dark brown hue, showcasing an attractive aged patina.
Dimensions:
Height 41 cm, Width 36.5 cm, Depth 16-23 cm.
Weight 12.8 kg.
Period: Japan – Meiji period (1868-1912).
The jizai is in good original condition, with visible signs of its authentic use, including narrow grooves at the curved section and an old chip from the "roof" of the design. Please refer to the photos for a detailed condition reference.
When shipped, we will add a certificate of authenticity.
