Byzantine bronze dagger art combines functionality and rich ornamentation influenced by Christian tradition and imperial symbolism. These pieces, often used as ceremonial or status weapons, are notable for their handles and guards decorated with intricate geometric, floral motifs and religious scenes.
Iconography often included crosses, images of saints or symbols of protection, reflecting the strong influence of faith in Byzantine culture. The techniques used, such as engraving, embossing and gilding, gave these weapons a luxurious character, being both practical tools and emblems of power and spiritual devotion.
