Rare engraving of the Isola Tiberina (Latin: Insula Tiberina), in the middle of Rome, showing the Tiber Island in its height, when it was modelled, using Travertine slabs, to resemble a Roman galley. The obelisk represents the mast.
By Lauro's time, most of the travertine cladding had been removed for reuse in Medieval and Rennaissance monuments and churches around the City.
Taken from ´Antiquae urbis splendor´ ('The Splendor of the Ancient City'), made by Giacomo Lauro (Jacobus Laurus) and published for the first time in Rome in 1612 by Vitale Mascardi.
Excellent condition. Thick paper. Never folded. On the reverse side explications about the engraving in Latin, German and French.
