An attractive wooden kazari’dana 飾り棚 (display cabinet), in a single section. Fully restored, cleaned, and waxed in Japan.
Crafted from indigenous cypress wood using the Yakisugi 焼杉 (lit. ‘burnt cypress’) technique, also known as shô sugi ban 焼杉板. This traditional, ancient Japanese method of wood preservation involves slightly charring the surface of the wood without combusting the entire piece. The carbonisation makes the wood water-proof and thus more durable.
The cabinet features a staggered shelf beneath a top surface, creating an elegant display area. Below this are a pair of sliding doors with elegant chrysanthemum-shaped thumb grips. The panels along the different tiers are adorned with a charming reticulated stylized design.
Period: Japan - Mid-Shôwa period (Mid-20th century).

A very practical cabinet in a very good restored condition. Smooth running doors. Non-intrusive wear spot on top. Please see the photos for a condition reference.
