I am offering for auction a superb 19th century watercolour of sailing vessels in a gale, by artist George Smith Signed bottom right and looks to be dated 1840. A very fine work. I am not sure which George Smith this is as there are several 19th century artists with the same name. Further research required. Offered with no reserve! The painting measures 52 x 32 cm. The frame measures 70 x 52 cm. Condition of the painting is fairly good. Please view all photos for accurate condition. This is a genuine attic find. The dirt was so bad on the glass I could hardly see the subject. I have cleaned off decades of dust and tobacco stains on the glass but there is staining on the underside of the glass. The painting does have some expected. light foxing. The frame has wear. Please note. We go to great lengths to ensure each painting is packed and protected to a very high standard but sadly cannot compensate or refund for any damage occurring to frames or glass during transit.
