Extremely rare and historical WWII temporary cemetery grave tag to an american airman who gave the ultimate sacrifice on april 10, 1945 while serving with 415th Night Fighter Squadron of the 12th Air Force.
(12th Air Force patch on the first/second photo as well as other photos are not included in the sale )
Once the soldiers were given a permanent resting place, these temporary GRS ( graves registration service ) tags were discarded.
This soldiers is nowadays buried at the Montgomery Cemetery, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania
He took off from the airfield of Saint Dizier in Haute Marne, France piloting a british Beaufighter KW147 and crashed on takeoff. The temporary cemetery clerck who typed this tag made an mistake and ommited a figure 7 in the 2nd Lt. 's serial number.
