-was a British band formed in 1974, best known for their pioneering role in the late 1970s and early 1980s new wave and synth-pop movements.
Despite their name, the band had no direct connection to Japan, but their music and style were heavily influenced by the aesthetic of glam rock, post-punk, and later, electronic music, drawing inspiration from both Western and Eastern imagery.

To avoid controversy over the title, the album was renamed simply as Japan in some countries.

The Japanese release contained several mistranslated song titles.
