Ryukyu Kasuri(琉球絣 Ryukyu ikat) is a general term for pongee fabrics woven in Okinawa (Ryukyu Islands).
Ryukyu Kasuri originally referred to Kumejima tsumugi, but now it refers to tsumugi woven with Ryukyuan patterns.
It is said to have been introduced to Ryukyu from India via Southeast Asia as early as the 14th century, and is characterized by a variety of patterns said to number more than 600.
From there, it was introduced to various parts of Japan. This is the root of Japanese kasuri.
In my opinion, the most significant feature of the history of Japanese textiles is that the technique was introduced from the north and the south.
The north came from East Asian cultures via China and the Korean peninsula, and the south came from Southeast Asia and South Asia.
In Okinawa (Ryukyu), the influence of culture from the south is strong, and the kasuri patterns remind us of southern culture.
This is evident in the Ryukyu kasuri.

Condition:
There is one small stain on the lining.
Other than that, it is excellent condition.

Gorgeous kimono well received. Colours are slightly lighter than they appear in the photo. The inside and details of the kimono looked read, but are more orange/peach in real life. Still very pretty.
