An interesting and often hard to find stock card of 29 GB Queen Victoria & King Edward VII overprints. These overprints are known as Departmental Officials and were issued for use by certain Government Departments from 1882 up to 1902. All the stamps intended for official use were overprinted by Thomas De La Rue & Co and were not avaliable to the general public via Post Offices. In Queen Victoria's reign only 5 Government Departments had official overprinted stamps as follows: *Inland Revenue (IR Official) *Office of Works (OW Official) *Army (Army Official) *Government Parcels (Govt Parcels) *Board of Education ( Board of Education) Under the reign of King Edward VII 2 further Departments were added, *Royal Household (RH Official) *Admiralty (Admiralty Official) This stock card from my late fathers collection, features the Inland Revenue (IR) Department. The collection includes the Mint "Specimen" example of SGO5a & a number of the hard to find higher values. All Official overprinted stamps were withdrawn in May 1904. Please examine the various photographs that feature the front and reverse of each stamp, as its an integral part of the description, it will help you make an informed judgement about condition, etcetera. The Stanley Gibbons Concise Stamp Catalogue of 2018 lists this collection of 29 stamps at £1683. This is a no reserve auction, so must be worth a bid!
