查看翻译A Henry Savage Landor - In the forbidden land : an account of a journey in Tibet, capture by the Tibetan authorities, - 1898
编号 88947327
A very RARE and beautiful and interesting set of two books...."In the Forbidden Land. An Account of a Journey in Tibet, Capture by the Tibetan Authorities, Imprisonment, Torture, and Ultimate Release Vols I and II by A Henry Savage Landor. They are a second impression of the first edition published in 1898 by William Heinemann. Illustrated with a fold-out map at the rear of volume II in very good condition, 8 colour plates, a photogravure frontispiece, 50 full page b/w plates and many in-text illustrations. Landor travelled through Tibet at a time when it was unheard of. The book about his experiences was translated into all the major European languages, and though his scientific data were seen to be of less importance, in energy and resourcefulness, and in courage and power of endurance, he was the equal of any of the previous generation of great explorers. Unputdownable.
Books in good to very good condition. In original olive green hardboards with illustrated front boards in gilt, red and black. Gilt stylised title lettering to the fronts and spines. Black symbols to spines also. Both spines are a little faded and rubbed, as are the board edges and corners. All boards firm. Binding blocks are slightly cocked. Bookplate to front endpapers. Pages rough cut. Foxing to prelims and flyleaf. All other pages mostly clean, apart from the odd spot of foxing. Some spotting to page edges. Condition: very good. Vol I - 320 pages, Vol II - 263 pages. Uncommon. SCARCE set
