1. Occupying the 12 o’clock position is the standout feature of this timepiece – the high and low tide sub-dial. It serves a dual purpose: indicating the strength of the tides and illustrating the waxing and waning of the moon. The inside of the sub-dial lets you know the phase of the moon, while the outer indicator correlates with the moon phases to tell you the strength of the tide. In the case of a full or black moon, the tide strength indicator would point to the higher range of 95-120, while a lower tide strength would be denoted by the hand pointing to the lower range of 20-45.

2. The second sub-dial at six o’clock tells you the time of the tide in the next 24 hours. This sub-dial is designed in the form of two concentric circles with arrows pointing in the opposite direction, telling you the exact hour of the two tides in the next 24 hours. A central hand points to the 24-hour indicator on the outer circumference.

3. The third sub-dial occupies the space at nine o’clock and tells you the strength and height of the current tide. Before heading off to your next voyage, simply look out for whether the pointer sits horizontally on the red line, which denotes that the tide is high. Similarly, if the pointer moves to the high and low indicators, you can be assured that the tide is low. It is considered that when the pointer aligns perfectly with the vertical line, then the strength of the current would be the least.

At the core of the Corum Admiral AC-One 45 Tides beats the automatic Caliber CO 277 movement. In the works for more than three years, the movement was developed with the collaborative efforts of the Astronomical Observatory of Geneva and the SHOM (Hydrographic and Oceanographic Services of the French National Navy). This SHOM-certified marvel beats at 28,800bph while boasting an impressive power reserve of 42 hours.
