Eight volume set, with one volume is missing. Although this first edition takes the form of nine hard-bound books, it is paginated as though it were a three-volume work, respectively 512, 491 and 610 pages.

The books are profusely illustrated throughout with 105 plates (32 with colour, 1 folding) + fold-out charts + in-text illustrations + “The development of the teeth of the Horse” model in volume 3 + "The Hoof of the Horse" model in volume 6. It is illustrated with multiple coloured overlays including a tissue guard with an explanation and identification table.

Published by The Gresham Publishing Company, London, 1907. Publisher’s original green decorated Art Nouveau bindings, in a Talwin Morris (Talwin Morris was a prolific book designer and decorative artist working in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly known for his Glasgow Style furniture, metalwork and book designs), with gilt lettering on upper covers and spines.

Condition
The volumes are beautifully bound, designed, and illustrated. Firm and well-bound copies. External covers are slightly marked, with light wear to edges, and corners, and minor rubbing to head and foot of spines. Internally the volumes are in good condition. Pages are generally clean, with foxing marks on some pages. All plates are present and in nice condition (Please see pictures).
