Solid bronze sculpture of L'Amour et Psyché after Antonio Canova
L'Amour et Psyché is a marble neoclassical statue by the Italian sculptor Antonio Canova. He began the statue in 1787 but did not finish it until 1793.
The statue shows Cupid (Amor) just after he has kissed Psyche awake. This is a scene from The Golden Metamorphoses by the Latin writer Lucius Apuleius Madaurensis.
It is one of six statues that Canova made about the legend of Amor and Psyche. The statue is now in the Louvre in Paris. Canova made a second version in 1796 and this is in the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg.
No scratches, cracks, chipping or dents. In an excellent condition.
Signed "bronze reproduction" on the back.
