Giorgio Vasari (1511 - 1574), after, by Stefano Mulinari (1741 - ca. 1790) - Allegoria della Carità

Hand coloured aquatint on blue-grayish paper by Stefano Mulinari (Italian, 1741 - ca. 1790) after Giorgio Vasari (Italian, 1511 - 1574) - "Allegoria della Carità" - ca. 1775. The work reproduces the central part of a drawing by Vasari, catalogued as "Charity and Saints", a preparatory sketch for the vault of the chapel of San Pietro Martire (from 1570-1571). Signed in plate, under image, "Girogio Vasari inv. e del:" lower left, "Mulinari inci:" lower right. Giorgio Vasari was an Italian Renaissance painter and architect, who is best known for his work "Lives of the Most Excellent Painters, Sculptors and Architects", considered the ideological foundation of art history writing. Stefano Mulinari was a Florentine painter and engraver who built his fame by translating the drawings of the great Italian painters into engravings, following the tradition of his teacher, Andrea Scacciati. Mulinari created a work in 1775, titled ""Historia practical dell'Inminciamento e Progressi della Pittura", including reproductions of drawings from Cimabue to Pietro Perugino. Probably this hand coloured print comes from this period. Literature reference: P. Barocchi, 1964, pp. 49-50, fig. 30; L. Corti, 1989, p. 121 Print applied on later thin card. Plate/image in good condition, some staining on upper and lower left edges that does not affect at all the overall aesthetics of the image. Card with faults (please see detailed photos). The print is not framed. Dimensions - plate/image 21 x 13.7 cm. PLEASE NOTE: - This item will be shipped from UK.
