Meiji Tsuho is the first banknote of the Empire of Japan. They are called "Germanic notes". As the name suggests, I asked Naumann in Germany to place an order.
In the early days, we commissioned the German company Naumann, but they were prone to discoloration and damage due to the use of western paper. In the 7th year of the Meiji era, the original plate was purchased from Naumann, and Naumann's engineer Edward Chiossone was hired to promote domestic production.
