Halphen firm was created in 1850 by Maurice and Charles Halphen. In 1853 the firm was renamed as C. Halphen et Cie with Charles Christofle being a principal shareholder. The main product of this enterprise was the silver-plated cutlery with a base metal for silver-plating, the home-made Alfénide metal.
