A pair of Chinese porcelain 'Dragon and Phoenix' gilt and silver mounted bowls and solid silver openwork saucers made for Vietnamese market. China, early 20th century, late Guangxu (1875-1908, 光緒) or Republic (1912-1949, 中華民國) period. Silver probably made in Vietnam. Rare!
Bowls painted to the exterior with Dragon and Phoenix in flight, on gilt ground. Inscribed with four-characters iron-red marks to bases. Silver mounts covering foot-rims with handles modeled as dragons. Silver saucer dishes with an engraved central medallion depicting farmer, house and tree, other with farmer and tree, within a geometrical band, followe by a narrow band with key-fret pattern. Openwork border. One plate with hand-written inscription: HANOI 7/1954.
Dimensions:
Bowls: height – 5,7 / 5,5 cm; diameter – 11,7 / 11,6 cm. Weight – 148 / 133 g.
Saucer dishes : diameter – 16,8 / 17 cm. Weight – 85 g / 86 g.
Conditions report:
- dishes in very good condition, natural patina and minor marks and scratches only.
- bowls (not examined under mounts): one in perfect condition, one with restored edge. Both with minor wear to the gilding in places.
Silver not tested.
