They've done it again - for the oceans and for enjoyment: Accompanied by cold, rain, fog and navigational challenges, Alex and Nick Ravenhall swam from one shore to the next equipped with whisky.

As the weather conditions suggest, the New Zealand brothers ended up in Scotland for their fundraising campaign: on the Hebridean island of Islay. Its iconic distilleries Bowmore and Bruichladdich lie opposite each other on the edges of Loch Indaal and marked the starting and landing points for the charitable open water swimmers.

Each of their swims through the bay was accompanied by Bowmore single malt from Oloroso sherry casks. On the other side, an Islay single malt refined in Pedro Ximénez sherry hogsheads was waiting to be "teaspooned" with the Bowmore. Only a teaspoonful of the “mystery malt” was mixed in.

At this point, connoisseurs can guess which of the celebrated Islay single malts makes up the majority of the blended malt Into the Bleak. One thing is certain: every bottle of the limited edition sold supports the marine conservation organization Sea Shepherd.
