Significance
We present the first edition of this rare and historically significant anatomical atlas by Moritz Ignaz Weber (1795-1875), a prominent professor of comparative and pathological anatomy at Bonn University. Weber's atlas is considered a masterpiece of anatomical illustration and lithography, representing one of the most advanced and meticulous scientific works of its era. The detailed illustrations not only provided insight into human anatomy but also exemplified the use of lithography at a time when it was a cutting-edge technique in scientific publications. This atlas showcases 45 large, lithographed plates, with 25 plates hand-coloured, and was produced during the pinnacle of 19th-century anatomical illustration. This is a rare collector's item often found incomplete due to its plates being used to create anatomical wall charts. Of the two known copies in the National Library of Medicine (Washington D.C.), one has 45 plates, the other 44.
Weber's atlas is considered a masterpiece in anatomical illustration and lithography. It was among the most advanced scientific works of its time and is still considered to be a seminal work in anatomy, with countless latter human body atlases based on this work.

Condition: very good condition overall, especially given their age. Most of the plates remain clean and sharp, retaining their detail and vibrancy, especially the hand-colored ones. There are no folds down the folia which is rare for this work. Light spotting and dampstaining on the lower margins of a few plates, which does not detract significantly from the images themselves. Some plates have moderate staining.

We presenteren de eerste editie van deze zeldzame en historisch belangrijke anatomische atlas van Moritz Ignaz Weber (1795-1875), een vooraanstaand professor in de vergelijkende en pathologische anatomie aan de Universiteit van Bonn. Weber's atlas wordt beschouwd als een meesterwerk van anatomische illustratie en lithografie, en vertegenwoordigt een van de meest geavanceerde en nauwgezette wetenschappelijke werken van zijn tijd. De gedetailleerde illustraties boden niet alleen inzicht in de menselijke anatomie, maar waren ook een voorbeeld van het gebruik van lithografie, een geavanceerde techniek voor wetenschappelijke publicaties in die tijd. Conditie: over het algemeen in zeer goede staat, zeker gezien hun leeftijd. De meeste platen zijn schoon en scherp gebleven, met behoud van hun detail en levendigheid, vooral de handgekleurde exemplaren. Er zijn geen vouwen of scheuren, wat zeldzaam is voor een folio van dit formaat, waar platen vaak beschadigd raken door vouwen. Echter, er is wat lichte spotting en vochtvlekken op de onderste marges van enkele platen, wat niet significant afdoet aan de afbeeldingen zelf. Enkele platen zijn redelijk beduimeld.
