Rare Basilosaurus molar. The Basilosaurus was an ancient, robust whale that hunted other whales and sharks. It was the largest animal on earth in it's time.
Basilosaurus teeth are rarely offered, and even more rarely complete. It has small restorations, which is usual, because these teeth come out of a rock-hard layer and the teeth often suffer fossilisation under an enormous pressure.
This tooth was found in the Western Sahara, near Boujdour, Morocco. It is Eocene (41 - 35 million years old) in age.
