Although only a partial skull, it is a wonderful silhoutte, creating the an intense sight of this magnicent predator of the ice age.

The cave hyena, Crocuta crocuta spelaea, was a formidable predator that prowled Europe during the Pleistocene epoch, approximately 1.2 million to 11,700 years ago. Distinguished from its modern African relative by its stockier build, powerful jaws, and an astonishingly strong bite, the cave hyena was a dominant scavenger and predator. It inhabited the same ancient landscapes as cave bears and saber-toothed cats, leaving behind a trail of fossils and evidence of its predatory prowess. These enigmatic creatures offer a glimpse into the ecological dynamics and climatic challenges faced by prehistoric fauna in a bygone era.
