PLEASE READ
Because my cameras and lenses are collectors items to me and I never used them with a film, I mark the cameras as “not tested”. However, functions such as shutter, rangefinder, light meter, mirror, etc. are checked for operation (not for accuracy) and lenses are judged by eye. From the description and test results can often be concluded whether the object could function properly, but I cannot give any guarantee on this.
DESCRIPTION
Leica IIIa rangefinder body, 1937, very rare "S-T" engraving, cosmetically and technically in good condition, working. Case and release cable included.
"S-T" is the prewar mark of the very early French dealer Spécialité Tiranty, in Paris. Spécialité Tiranty - a photo retailer located at 91, Rue Lafayette, near the Gare du Nord in Paris - was Leitz's first French distributor, appointed in 1925.
Only a very few Leitz dealers, usually early, were officially allowed to engrave their identification marks on Leitz equipment. Leitz bodies and lenses with this kind of factory or factory-authorized engravings are uncommon.
