1966 Hermitage Boissy&Delaygue - Hermitage - 1 Bottle (0.75L)

Hermitage, the Hermitage or the Hermitage is located in the southern part of the section on the left bank of the Rhone. Wine is thought to have been cultivated here by the Phoenicians as early as 400 BC. The name Hermitage derives from the hermit home of the crusader Henri Gaspard de Sterimberg, who retreated to the hill of Tain from the year 1224 and founded a hermitage (Ermitage) to dedicate himself to prayer and viticulture. Despite its small size, the area is very diverse. In the highest part, the western one, the soil is made up of granite and fine clay. The eastern, larger part of the slope consists of sand scree and limestone in the middle. And the highest parts are covered with loess. Some particularly steep areas are protected from slipping by limestone walls. They are among the steepest vineyards in Europe. The climate is a mix of continental and Mediterranean influence with sufficient rainfall compared to the Côte Rôtie and Cornas areas. An Hermitage was one of the favorite wines of the writer Alexandre Dumas (1802-1879). The ruby red and extremely long-lived wine develops its drinkable maturity only after long aging in the bottle of at least five to ten years. It is made mainly with the Syrah variety (here also Hermitage) and a maximum of 15% Marsanne and Roussanne white wine varieties Boissy and Delaygue has its origins in Cornas, in 1894, in the hands of two men in love with their land, Monsieur Boissy and Monsieur Delaygue. Since then, the perpetual philosophy of its founders has been a signature of excellence: passion for the land, mastery of wines and intensity of tasting.
