Biography
Shima Kinryou (?-1782-1862)
A painter from the late Edo period associated with the Nagasaki school.
His name is Hou.
Originally a samurai of the Nanbu clan, he fled to Nagasaki after an incident in Edo, where he studied painting. He was later invited to Himeji by the chief retainer of the Himeji clan. Taking the name Kinryou, he served as a guest master at Kameyama Hontoku Temple in Himeji. His works, mainly of birds and flowers, are primarily found in Himeji and its vicinity, though he seldom painted figures.
