雕塑, Orang Malu, also called Yogiman or Weeping Buddha - 22.5 cm - 苏尔木

Carved wooden figure of a man in a loin cloth sitting in a hunched, somewhat fetal position and holding his head in his hands. It depicts the Javanese legend of Orang Malu, which translates to "shy man". The figure is also known under the name of Crying Yogi, and Weeping Buddha. One of the stories that goes with this legend is that two masked warriors fought each other in various battles. One day, when the older warrior defeated his younger rival, it turned out that the man had killed his own son. Confronted with the face of his own child, the older warrior – who is none other than the Weeping Buddha – began to cry. The torment of having ended the life of his own brood, forced him to the ground. Crying tears of great sorrow, he buried his face in his hands to hide from the truth of what he had done. It was then he renounced violence and proclaimed the virtues of helping the young, the sick, the suffering, and the old. It is believed that the weeping Buddha takes away the grief and troubles of the world. In return, he bestows peace and provides strength to those who rub his back. This is a beautiful sculpture, in a very good condition. It just shows minor wear to the finish on the area where it rests. Exact age is unknown, but I'd estimate this item to stem from the 2nd half the 20th century. Weight: 1,83 kg Dimensions: 32 × 15 × 22,5 cm Item will be packed with care, and sent registered and insured.
