Seljuk Bronze Peacock
Circa 12th century AD
This nice bronze finial represents a miniature peacock with a fanned tail held high. The bird is depicted in an upright posture with a round head, a pointed beak, and an upturned crest.
The Seljuks, a medieval Turkic dynasty, played a significant role in shaping the history of the Islamic world. Emerging in the 11th century AD, the Seljuks originated from the steppes of Central Asia. The dynasty began with Tughril Beg, establishing its dominion across a vast territory, including parts of Anatolia, the Middle East, and Central Asia.
