Wooden, gold-lacquered, lacquered, battle hat, armor-木製　金彩　漆塗　陣笠　武具　防具 A jingasa is a type of hat used by foot soldiers and foot soldiers in battlefields since the Muromachi period. Made from thin iron or leather, it was painted with lacquer and used as a substitute for a helmet. Those used by generals and warriors were wooden and lacquered. In later times, it was called a sorigasa, which samurai used when going out and other occasions. It was made from kneaded leather and the back was painted with black, vermilion, silver, or gold with lacquer. The front had a family crest, and some were decorated with lacquer and ao-nai.
