Antique, sturdy wooden Kansai mizuya’dansu 水屋箪笥 (kitchen cabinet) in two sections. Fully restored, cleaned and waxed.
The its frame is made of precious Japanese hinoki cypress wood and the panels of indigenous sugi (cedar wood). The whole varnished in an attractive dark brown hue with a great patina.
The upper section is constructed with two pair of sliding doors, one pair with mesh-covered lattice work and four small adjacent drawers. The upper sliding doors are crafted from striking burnt cedar showcasing a striking textured wood grain.
The drawers fitted with ‘kante’-shaped iron bail handles.
In the lower section, there's a pair of large sliding doors, embellished with horizontal bars, a design echoed on the cabinet's sides which are also reinforced with sturdy horizontal bars.
The doors and drawers operate smoothly, offering deep and voluminous storage space.
This cabinet style hails from the Kansai region of Japan.
Period: Japan – Early Meiji period (Second half 19th century)

The cabinet is in a very good completely restored condition with minimal traces consistent with age. Please see the photos for a condition reference.
