MARQUÉS DE VARGAS RESERVA 2018

Marqués de Vargas Reserva 2018 is a high-end red wine and limited production. It is made with a selection of vineyards from the entire "Pradolagar" property, adjacent to the winery. The 2018 vintage was a short vintage in quantity due to the great frost of April, but very good in quality, as can be seen in this red wine result of assembling the tempranillo (78%), with garnache (10%) and mazuelo (12%).

Manual harvest in 12 kg boxes, according to the ripening and variety of each plot. The clusters enter the refrigeration chambers within a few minutes of being collected. There they stay all night at a homogeneous temperature of 6-8º C to be manually selected the next day on the harvest table. The elaborations in the deposits have been adapted taking into account each type of soil. Use of native yeasts from the different plots. This red has been aged for 22 months in French oak barrels.

The Marqués de Vargas winery is directed by Pelayo de la Mata, XI Marqués de Vargas and heir to a saga linked to the production and commercialization of wine since 1840. Pelayo de la Mata wanted to make his father's dream, Hilario de la Mata, come true: to create his own winery. This is how Marqués de Vargas was born in 1989, nestled in the Ebro valley, in Logroño, in the center of her own vineyard, following the concept of 'château': surrounded by a splendid vineyard.

A 70-hectare vineyard cultivated on poor soils of clay-limestone components, where the traditional indigenous grapes of the D.O.Ca. predominate. Rioja and other experimental varieties have also had a place. Vines that are subjected to very controlled yields.

Marquis of Vargas Reserve 2018 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is ideal to accompany grilled red meats, acorn-fed ham and sheep's cheeses, among others.
