These types of low chairs were traditionally used in communities living in the Hindukush mountains that straddle the frontier and Afghanistan and Pakistan These two both have a patina and show signs of some years of home use. Either from Nuristan, Afghanistan and/or the Swat Valley, Pakistan, they date from the early-mid 20th century The wood has not been polished and is in its original state as purchased on location in 1975-76. The chairs are stable. One is without seating as this was damaged beyond repair.
